The Skin
As much as we like to believe we know everything there is to know about the body. The truth is, we KNOW very little. Add to it that everything we think we know changes about every 10 years, it can make it difficult to KNOW. I mean, its silly to think that we will ever really know as there is a lot of Unseen forces that can act upon us.
An example of this is the tongue. I was taught that there are taste bud clusters for salty, sweet, bitter, and sour. Well, its been disproven. Clusters of taste buds throughout the tongue contain them all and we don’t know which ones are what.
The skin, to me, is another one of those we-think-we-know-but-we-don’t really.
We like to almost…dumb down…the skin’s purpose/function.
From its sebum collecting and transforming the suns rays into vitamin D, to acting as a waste management system and early alarm system for our health…the skin is truly amazing.
Being able to increase the melanin based on sun exposure, raise its pores for heating, and opening up to sweat for cooling…goodness let us all sing praises to our skin.
And how do we thank it? By dousing it in chemicals. Thanks skin (eye roll).
The truth is, besides nourishing as skin with FATS (and animal fats as we are animals) and direct sunlight (everything we thought we knew about sun damage is wrong), we can learn much about what is going on in our bodies by looking at our skin
